The County Council Interview 2009

My interview with the County Council was held on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 in the Council’s sixth floor conference room. The Council members present were George Leventhal, Marc Elrich, Michael Knapp, Roger Berliner, Nancy Floreen, Dutchy Trachtenberg, Nancy Navarro and Council President Phil Andrews.

Council President Andrews asked a series of general questions to be answered by all of the candidates for appointment. These questions included:

1. Why do you want to be a member of the Planning Board and what experience do you have related to the Planning Board’s responsibilities?
2. How do you view the relationship of a Planning Board member with the Chair, other Planning Board members, members of the County Council, and the County Executive?
3. What do you think are the most important priorities for Montgomery County?
4. How can the Planning Board advance those objectives?
5. What importance do you give to parks and recreation issues in Montgomery County?
6. Can you devote the required amount of time as a member of the Planning Board?
7. Do you have any conflict of interests?

After these questions, members of the Council asked their own questions, which were wide-ranging. The issues included: the appropriate goals and objectives of the County’s Growth Policy; how to address diversity issues as a Planning Board member; how to improve the efficiency of the Planning Board; and how to address conflicting views among stakeholders in the Planning Board process.
